4 skills

Practice Goethe by exam skill.

A1 already includes listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Higher levels require not only knowing words, but using them under timed tasks.

Lesen: read for the right information

Practice identifying keywords, names, times, negation, and main ideas. You do not need to translate every word if the task is clear.

Example

Öffnungszeiten: Montag bis Freitag von 9 bis 18 Uhr.

Questions often test dates, times, locations, or conditions.

Hören: main idea before details

Start with announcements, calls, and short dialogues. Note numbers, names, times, and action verbs.

Example

Der Zug nach Hamburg fährt heute von Gleis 7 ab.

Gleis 7 is key detail; the broader context is a train announcement.

Schreiben: use stable writing frames

Prepare openings, reasons, requests, and polite endings. At B1/B2, add examples and connectors for flow.

Example

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren, ich schreibe Ihnen, weil ...

A strong frame lowers pressure during the exam.

Sprechen: learn speaking chunks

Practice opening ideas, asking for repetition, agreeing, disagreeing softly, and changing topics. Clear is better than perfect.

Example

Meiner Meinung nach ... / Könnten Sie das bitte wiederholen?

Functional phrases help you keep going when a word is missing.

Is doing many mock tests enough?

Not by itself. Use tests to find weak points, then return to vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and sentence patterns for the skill that needs work.

Turn each mock test into a feedback session.
